The Student Government Association (SGA) is Hofstra University's student-run governing body and is comprised of full-time undergraduate students who were elected by the student population. It was created "to recommend policies and procedures, which serve to support and broaden the intellectual, social, cultural, and political needs of its constituents." The Senate, the legislative body, meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Greenhouse. Some of SGA's responsibilities include overseeing over 140 clubs and organizations, lobbying in the interest of the full-time undergraduate student population, and organizing programming throughout the academic year.
Currently, the SGA has eight standing committees: Academic Affairs, Appropriations, Club Affairs, Fundraising, Public Relations, Rules, Spirit, and Student Services. All of these committees work to advance the needs and interests of the clubs and organizations as well as the entire student body. In addition, representatives from SGA serve on the University Senate, act as delegates on the Board of Trustees, and meet with the President, Provost, Vice President of Student Affairs, and many other administrators on campus.
We encourage students and club representatives to check this page regularly for important SGA announcements. However, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your student representatives in SGA! You may call us at (516) 463-6960 or stop by our office, room 207 of the Mack Student Center. You may also e-mail us by clicking here for a quick response!
