Hofstra's Blackboard automatically gives
all Hofstra instructors pre-built websites for every course,
but they are not visible to their students until faculty make
them active. Faculty can use these to organize and distribute
course materials.
Blackboard is one of the main links in
the Hofstra
Portal. Look for the Bb icon!
If you want your students to have access
to one of your Blackboard courses, you need to make it available
to them. To make it available, just go into the course and
click on Control Panel at the bottom
left of the screen. Under Course Options,
click Settings. Set the Course Availability setting
to Yes when you are ready to have students access the
site.
You have the option of using Blackboard
in every course you teach. Students enrolled in a particular
course automatically have accounts in the Blackboard site
associated with that course. All you have to do is add your
content.
Right now, more than 440 faculty at Hofstra
are using Blackboard. More than 80% of Hofstra students have
a course that uses Blackboard already. We can help you figure
out if there's something Blackboard can do for you.
Blackboard offers you the ability to communicate
with your students outside of class. You can organize students
into discussion groups, send mass emails, and send and receive
assignments.
FCS offers one-on-one
training in Blackboard. We also host periodic Blackboard
workshops, and can set up a workshop individualized for your
department or discipline.
If you need to save your course, your gradebook,
or close the course because you and your students are finished
with it, we have a QuickSheet
that gives you the easy steps.
