scanning & digitizing

FCS > Services > Scanning & Digitizing

We can assist you with scanning of texts, images and photographic slides. We can also convert analog audio and video (such as from VHS cassettes or audio cassettes) to the appropriate digital formats. This is our popular Technology Production Center, as it's been known for several years, which is now housed in the Faculty Support Center, McEwen 215.

You can also have Opscan sheets (also known as 'bubble sheets') scored.
Please click here for more information about Opscans.

Please review the following options and contact FCS if you would like assistance.

Image Scanning

Photographs and graphics can be scanned for use in printed work or for the web. We can help you alter or correct scanned images and create new graphics.

Audio Digitizing

Audio cassettes and other analog recordings can be converted to digital files for use in a variety of course-related projects. For example, we are available to assist language instructors in the preparation of materials for Hofstra's Digital Language Lab. We focus on the conversion of original material recorded by you. Any copying is governed by copyright law and if you have questions we'd be happy to discuss your rights and responsibilities with you.

Audio Digitizing

Video Digitizing

'Video quoting' is becoming more and more popular in teaching. Got a couple of minutes of a film you want to show to your students? You can put a digital 'video quote' in your Blackboard course and share it with students (and only your students) in or out of the classroom. If it's your original material, you'll get immediate and repeated use of it. If it's material copyrighted to someone else, we'll work with you to make sure you adhere to copyright law and, if necessary, obtain rights or help you through the process of paying appropriate copying fees.
