Welcome
Welcome to electronic mail (email)! Hofstra University has partnered with Google to offer you Hofstra GMail which allows you to correspond with people at Hofstra as well as people all around the world. All you need to communicate with others is their email address. To access email, all you need is an active Hofstra Network account. Your email address is your username followed by "@pride.hofstra.edu." For example, if your username is ajones1, your address is ajones1@pride.hofstra.edu. Email Accounts

Helpful Tips about Hofstra GMail
  • Remember, you are responsible for your account.
  • Do not send email from your account that you would not want someone else to read. email is private, but keep in mind, IT IS NOT CONFIDENTIAL AND CAN BE READ BY THE SYSTEM MANAGER!
  • Do not give your password to anyone else. Since all Hofstra students have student email accounts, there should be no need for you to share your account with anyone.
  • When using your Hofstra GMail account in the labs, make sure you log out of your account before leaving. If you leave yourself logged on, someone may delete your messages or send messages from your account. Even though you did not send the messages, you will be responsible for them.

Log-On Procedure

You can log on to your Hofstra GMail account by using any web browser. Applications like Outlook Express can also be set up to be used with your new account. You can access your Hofstra Student email account via the Hofstra Portal:

  1. Log on from the Hofstra Portal:
    • Go to http://my.hofstra.edu.
    • Log on to the Hofstra Portal using your Hofstra Network ID.
    • Click on the "GMail" link located on the top navigation menu.

*You should have received documentation containing your username in the mail when you first registered at Hofstra. If you did not receive your username, you can stop by the SCS office located in Calkins Lab, Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m., and Fridays until 5 p.m., or the ResNet office, 110 Student Center, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., with your valid Hofstra ID card.

Changing Your Password
You can change your password at anytime by using the Hofstra University Self-Service Password System. To increase security, Hofstra University now requires you to use "strong passwords." A valid password must be between 8 and 32 characters long and must contain at least one number and one special character (e.g.: !,@,#,$). Your new password can't start or end with a number, but you can start or end with a special character.

Resetting Your Password
If you forget your password, you must have it reset. This procedure takes time, which you may not have if there's an assignment due, or if you're expecting important email. Make it a priority to find a way to remember your password. To reset your password, visit SCS Office or the ResNet Office.
