ECOPRINT
Since 1996 Hofstra has been able to
provide free laser printing services in the computer labs on campus. Due
to recent and very significant increases in the cost of paper and printer
toner, a new ECOPRINT system has been implemented, effective for the spring
2001 semester.
As part of the ECOPRINT system, all
student accounts will be credited with 400 free printing credits at the
beginning of the fall semester, spring semester, and summer session I.
These credits may be used in many of the computer labs on campus. Fall
semester credits may be used from the fall semester through January intersession,
spring semester credits may be used until the end of the spring semester,
and summer credits may be used until the end of the summer sessions. The
ECOPRINT system will charge 1 credit (10 cents) for each piece of
paper printed on the standard black and white laser printers. Color laser
printing is 10 credits ( 1 dollar) per page. Unfortunately students may
not carry over unused printing credits.
The ECOPRINT system applies to all computer labs at Hofstra with the
exception of the Fine Arts and Dempster labs, because there is an extra
fee to use these specialized facilities. Also not included are the labs
in the School of Law. Gary Moore, director of information systems, will
contact law students and faculty for the School of Law on the policies
applicable to them.
The new printers in the computer labs default to duplex printing. This
means each page is printed on both sides (unless the setting is changed).
The advantage is that the user is only charged the cost of printing on
one side of the paper. There is also no charge for the 'Banner Page,' which
identifies the owner of the print job and the amount of ECOPRINT credit
left in his or her account.
You can only use your individual network account to print in the labs.
If you need help to recall your network account or password, see any student
assistant in the labs.
Once the 400-credit limit is exceeded,
there are three ways to credit an ECOPRINT account:
1) For the quickest service, the user should go to Memorial Hall, room
206, to speak with a student account representative and arrange payment.
Following that transaction, the user account will be credited, effective
immediately.
2) There will be a drop-in payment box located outside Memorial Hall,
room 205, and inside Memorial Hall, room 206. Processing will take one
week.
3) The user may mail in the attached form with payment when the ECOPRINT account gets low. Processing will take one week.
Students may not use a credit on their student account or add money
to their tuition or housing bill to credit their ECOPRINT account.
