FTP stands for "file transfer protocol". It is a client-server
protocol which allows a user on one computer to transfer files back
and forth from another computer over a network or the internet.
What
can you use it for?
You can use FTP to move files back and forth from your home computer,
your dorm computer, or a lab computer, to your personal Hofstra network
disk space (also referred as your "F:" drive).
What
are some examples for using FTP?
To download
files from home you saved on your F: drive while working in the
computer labs or in a class.
Do work at
home and upload files to your F: drive so you can print and edit
them in the computer labs.
Create web
pages on your local machine and publish them by uploading them
to your "public" directory on your F: drive.
