HOFSTRA IN AUSTRALIA
Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers an exciting study abroad program in Australia. Students have the opportunity to study Australia's political, economic and cultural life. The program is multidisciplinary and will be run by faculty from the department of Economics and Geography and Political Science. The program features excursions to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, the Outback and Sydney.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Geography 148 - Geography of Australia and the South Pacific (3 s.h.)
This course provides students with an understanding of Australia and its people. It attempts to demystify this continent-country by offering a geographic perspective of the forces that have shaped its unique physical and human landscapes. The program is based in Sydney and features excursions to Canberra, the Great Barrier Reef and the Queensland Outback.
Political Science 154 - Seminar in Comparative Politics: Politics Down Under (3 s.h.)
Students are given the opportunity to learn about Australia firsthand while earning three liberal arts credits. This course focuses on Australian politics and addresses such topics as the structure of the political system, the development of political parties, civil liberties, political participation and economic policy. Organized around the theme of the challenges facing Australia, students will learn about this fascinating country and the main political issues that are affecting Australians.

COSTS:
In addition to tuition for three or six credits, students pay a program fee of $4,400 (subject to change) for international and domestic round-trip airfares, transfers, all accomodations, breakfast daily and all meals during the desert camping experience.
