How to Apply to a Hofstra Study Abroad Program
To be eligible to study abroad at Hofstra University you must be a student in good academic standing (minimum GPA of 2.0) and good judicial standing. There are two exceptions: The India program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0. and the Amsterdam Scholarship Exchange requires a minimum GPA of 3.4. There may be other requirements depending on the study abroad program. A program may request a student to submit a narrative along with the application and/or request an interview. It is important that you discuss eligibility and program requirements with the program director.
You can request an application for a short-term or semester program from the program director or the Office of Study Abroad Programs. All applications have a cover sheet that explains important procedures, documents needed and deadline. You are requested to complete the application, download four (4) necessary forms from our website found at www.hofstra.edu/studyabroad and complete all forms. Prior to application submission, you are requested to go to student accounts with the last page of your application which has your program account number highlighted and pay the $400 deposit which is part of the program cost. Once you have paid the deposit, student accounts will give you two receipts: one is for your files and the other must be attached to your completed application. Please submit completed application packet, which includes (1) Program application, (2) Four necessary forms and (3) Deposit receipt to the Office of Study Abroad Programs, 107 Roosevelt Hall. Our office only accepts complete applications.
A word about deadlines
All our programs have a deadline. For a January program it is generally early October and for a summer program it is generally early March. However, should a program have space availability after the deadline, students can still apply. Most Hofstra programs admit students on a rolling basis, so you don’t need to wait until the deadline to apply to the program and submit your application to our Office.
