Ling Huang

Ling Huang is an assistant professor of chemistry at Hofstra University. Dr. Huang (pronounced "Juan") was born and raised in Shanghai, China, where he attended Fudan University and graduated with a B.S. in chemistry in 2001. He traveled half the world to eventually complete an M.S. program in analytical chemistry at the University of Oklahoma. He spent the next five years studying microfluidic bioanalytical chemistry at the University of Virginia, where he fashioned DNA chemo-mechanical sensors using elastic silicone membranes and made glass microchips for protein analyses, before earning a Ph.D. in chemistry.

Since he started independent work at Hofstra University in 2009, his research group has expanded from one student to 8-10 students. His current research spans two major fields: bioanalytical chemistry and forensic science, both of which utilize the state-of-the-art instrumentation located in Berliner Hall to study bacterial carotenoid production, look for illicit drugs, generate molecular fingerprints for ink profiles, and search for nitric oxide-releasing drug candidates.

In his spare time, Dr. Huang enjoys the authentic ethnic restaurants on Long Island and in New York City. He loves to visit food blogs and writes a bilingual food blog called Lingcuisine, while also exploring chemistry in cooking.
