Student Initiatives

Students for a Greener Hofstra: Students for a Greener Hofstra is dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability right here at Hofstra as well as fighting injustices in the community in order to prevent climate change and share a healthy environment with all. In the last few years, we’ve made several accomplishments: had 3,000 students take the Powervote pledge to vote with clean energy as their top priority; convinced Hofstra administration to hire an Officer of Sustainability; and brought 43 Hofstra students to the largest youth environmental summit yet – Powershift ‘09. See what they're up to now on their Facebook page

Hofstra Discovery Club

The Discovery Club is designed to provide a range of community service opportunities to students throughout the semester. We work on a project-to-project basis where each event alternates between focusing on community empowerment and then sustainable solutions work. We encourage members to get involved with the decision process for what organizations we work with and then help plan the event. In addition to hands on volunteer work, we also are focused on educating students about current social issues and prompting discussion on what we can do to help.  Visit the website
