Description: Public Relations/Assistant Professor

The Department of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations anticipates an opening in Fall 2014 for a tenure track appointment for a full-time assistant professor to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations.

Qualifications: A terminal degree in Public Relations, or in a closely related field, is required. A Ph.D. is preferred; a master's degree is mandatory. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach a broad range of courses including, but not limited to, public relations fundamentals, research, media relations, new media and technology, and writing. Opportunities exist to teach and develop new courses.

Responsibilities: In addition to teaching three courses per semester, faculty members are expected to advise undergraduate and graduate majors and provide service to the department, university and the professional or non-profit community. Professional, creative or scholarly research and publication are required for tenure and promotion. Recent or ongoing professional and academic experience is highly desired. Candidates who have professional public relations experience, and whose scholarship and teaching focus on integrated communications are preferred. Candidates should be prepared to show a portfolio of their work.
