Jacqueline Grennon Brooks

Jacqueline Grennon Brooks is a professor in the Department of Teaching, Literacy and Leadership at Hofstra University and serves as director of the Institute for the Development of Education in the Advanced Sciences (IDEAS) and the Secondary Science Education Program. Dr. Brooks is the author of three books and numerous book chapters and articles on the dynamics of teaching and learning, with a focus on cognitive development and concept formation. She consults nationally and internationally on topics of problem-based science instruction and language acquisition through science and math content. The STEM Studio is an outgrowth of Dr. Brooks’ prior work from a National Science Foundation grant that produced a learning lab model evaluated as exemplary by the National Science Teachers Association. Dr. Brooks has been recognized by the American Educational Research Journal for outstanding service in publications and was named Teacher of the Year at Hofstra University in 2008. Last year, she won the Strong, Smart, Bold Award from Girls, Inc., a longstanding research and advocacy organization that empowers girls to reach their potential and to understand, value, and assert their rights.
