May 2016 News Update
Electric Vehicle Charging Station Network Expansion
With University and grant funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Facilities and Operations added a third electric vehicle charging station for electric and hybrid vehicles on the campus in May 2016. Hofstra's Campus Sustainability Officer, Teresa Greis, said "The project is an opportunity for Hofstra to partner with those in our community who have made a 'Sustainable commitment' by purchasing an electric or hybrid vehicle. Having access to the charging stations allows them to further reduce their carbon footprint." Permits are required to utilize the charging stations and are available at the Department of Public Safety for Hofstra students and staff. For more information contact Facilities and Operations at (516) 463-6619 and view Hofstra's Interactive Campus Map for other locations.
In May, Hofstra became a partner in the federal Department of Energy's EV Everywhere Grand Challenge taking the Workplace Challenge pledge, working with others across the nation, to enable production of Plug-in vehicles (PEV's) that are as affordable and convenient as gasoline-powered vehicles by 2022. Partners set a minimum goal of providing charging access for a portion of the PEV-driving employees in America's workplaces, and a best practice goal of meeting all PEV-driving employee demand.
