We worked hard to upgrade your wireless over the summer! And more improvements are on the way.
To help make sure you’re getting the best performance, here are a few troubleshooting tips:
1. Forget your old wireless connection: HU Guest. HU Preferred is faster, more secure, and you don’t have to log in each time you connect. Your device probably won’t automatically forget it; so here’s how to make it.
Specific directions on how to connect HU Preferred are below:
4. You should be able to stay on wireless as you move across the campus. If you can’t, please let us know so we can address this with you!

WiFi is available in every building and many outdoor spaces on campus. Please be sure to check out the acceptable use guidelines before using Hofstra's wireless services.

Connect to HU Preferred! Why?
Students, faculty, and staff should use the HU PREFERRED wireless network to access Hofstra's online services and the Internet. HU PREFERRED uses WPA2-Enterprise wireless security to provide the safest network connection available. When connecting to HU PREFERRED you will be asked to authenticate in order to access the network, when prompted enter your Hofstra Portal credentials. Use the instructions above to connect your device.
If your computer is automatically connecting to HU Guest, you should remove it from your list of wireless connections. HU Guest is a slower, less secure connection. If you are connecting to our wireless using HU Guest, you might not be able to properly access web sites such as Facebook and Blackboard and you will not be able to connect to your email client or chat programs such as Skype. Therefore, we encourage you to remove HU Guest from your list of wireless connections. See instructions above.
The HU MISC DEVICES wireless network was created to provide Internet access to devices which are not capable of WPA2-Enterprise wireless security such as e-readers, gaming and video entertainment devices. Click here to learn about which devices should be connected to the Internet through the HU MISC DEVICES network and how to register these devices in order to use them on the network.

All other users can utilize the HU GUEST wireless network to access the Internet. Be aware that HU GUEST provides limited access to the Internet with a reduced connection speed and web browsing capability only. Other popular application such as chat programs(AIM, MSN Messenger, etc.) and e-mail clients(Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.) will not work on HU GUEST.

If you are having difficult connecting to the wireless network please feel free to contact the appropriate department.
