Wireless Access

Connect to eduroam!

Wi-Fi is available in every building and many outdoor spaces on campus. Please be sure to check out Hofstra's acceptable use guidelines before using the universities Wi-Fi services.

'eduroam' Wi-Fi network

Students, faculty and employees should connect their laptops, tablets and smart phones to 'eduroam'. This secure wireless network is connected to a roaming access service shared by many educational and research organizations around the world. Once your device is logged in, you can connect securely at participating institutions worldwide without having to reenter your credentials – just like a Wi-Fi Hotspot. All current students, faculty and employees can login to this network, as well as visitors from other eduroam institutions. Devices that can not be connected to 'eduroam', such as gaming and media streaming devices, should be connected to 'Hofstra Guest', click here to learn more.

How do I connect?
  • Select 'eduroam' from the list of available Wi-Fi networks. When prompted to enter your Hofstra credentials, enter your username in the following format:
    • students\HofstraPortalUsername@hofstra.edu – if your primary role is a student
      OR
    • employees\HofstraPortalUsername@hofstra.edu– if your primary role is an employee
  • Your eduroam password is the same as your portal password.
  • The first time you connect, remember to “trust” or “accept” the certificate that says “secure.hofstra.edu” issued by SSL.com.

Note: The”@hofstra.edu” in the username login is NOT associated with an email address. It enables authentication of your login through Hofstra, and ensures a seamless Wi-Fi connection at participating institutions.

'Hofstra Guest' Wi-Fi network

The 'Hofstra Guest' network is available to university guests and can be used by Hofstra students and employees to connect wireless devices that are not capable of connecting to 'eduroam' (i.e. devices that don't support WPA2-Enterprise encryption). Students and employees should not use 'Hofstra Guest' on their laptops, tablets and moible devices as it provides limited access, with Internet web browsing capability only (HTTP, HTTPS, VPN). Other popular applications such as chat programs(Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM, etc.) and e-mail clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.) will not work on 'Hofstra Guest'

Hofstra students and employees:
Connect your wireless devices, which are not capable of WPA2-Enterprise encryption, to 'Hofstra Guest'. Devices, such as game consoles, mobile gaming devices, Apple TVs, Rokus, older Kindles and Nooks, must be registered in order to connect to 'Hofstra Guest'. Learn how to register your devices here.
