How do I become a part of the Hofstra Team?

There are many ways to apply to join our team. 

• You can call the camp office at 516-463-CAMP and request an application be mailed to you.
• You can print the application here and mail it in. or bring it to the camp office
• Make sure all information is filled out completely and that any résumé’s, recommendations, or certifications are attached.
• Upon availability – we will contact you for a personal interview appointment.

What do we look for when recruiting new team members?

• Strong Work Ethic.
• Positive Attitude.
• The ability to work well with children of all ages.
• Leadership skills, both for children and co-workers.
• Patience, kindness, respect, and cooperative attitude.
• The willingness to go the extra mile.
• The ability to put the children before yourself.

How long will my position last?

• Hofstra summer camps are a 6 week commitment. (For some people we may require you to work a 7th week.) Other people may request to work the 7th week.
• You are also required to attend both orientation days; these meetings are mandatory.
• Your camp day begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at approx 4:30 p.m.
• All staff must sign in every day.
•Staff cannot leave the campus until all campers have been dismissed safely.

If you are a bus counselor or a staff member who rides the bus to get to and from work; your camp day begins as soon as you board the bus. It is very important that you sign in as soon as your arrive at the Physical Fitness Center.

Orientation Dates and Time

All new employees, all directors and all administrators: Wednesday July 1, 2009 @ 5-9 p.m.

All Employees; new and returning employees and RN’s: Thursday, July 2, 2009 @ 9- 4:30 p.m.

RN Nurses: meet the parents Thursday July 2, 2009 @ 10-2 p.m.
