M.A. & M.S. in Biology

Joanne Willey

The Streptomyces are a group of filamentous soil bacteria that are a rich source of antibiotics and other medically and industrially important compounds. We have isolated several surfactants which function as biological wetting agents from several Streptomyces species. We are interested in how these compounds facilitate bacterial growth and how they might be useful to humans.
