M.A. and M.S. in Biology
Program Requirements
Master of Arts
Candidates must complete:
- 33 semester hours of graduate work including an essay (BIO 303)
- At least 27 credits must be in biology courses numbered 200 or higher with up to 6 credits of electives chosen with permission of the Graduate Director

Master of Science
Candidates must complete:
- 30 semester hours of graduate work including a thesis (BIO 301, BIO 302)
- At least 24 credits must be in biology courses numbered 200 or higher with up to six credits of electives must be chosen with permission of the Graduate Director

Students take graduate courses which emphasize cell biology, genetics, cell culture, laboratory use of microcomputers, and general and molecular laboratory techniques, such as:
Essay (303) if M.A. or Thesis (301, 302) if M.S. on subject related to marine or freshwater biology.
In addition to the general M.A./M.S. requirements:
This concentration enables students to focus their studies on aspects of marine and freshwater biology. All students are expected to complete their essay or thesis on a subject related to marine or freshwater biology.
Students are encouraged to take 18 hours accumulated from the following courses:
