After completing a B.A. in Linguistics & Political Science with a minor in International Affairs, I am happy to continue my work with CCE while pursuing an M.A. in the country's first and only Forensic Linguistics masters program. (Go Hofstra!) Although I am eager to explore anything that can be learned about the world and the people and issues in/around it, at my soul lies the study of language and culture, and the interface between the two. I believe that the world has much to gain via the exchange of knowledge and promotion of education, which will ultimately be part of any career path I choose. I take pride in working with and learning from interns whose passions and expertise extend far and wide across the world's disciplines, much more than what can be read on this page.
Hailing from Lima, Peru, Kenny Cordero Rubinos is currently in his senior year at Hofstra University. Kenny has a double major of Political Science and History with a minor in Latin American and Carribean Studies. When not studying, Kenny can be found actively participating in the Student Government Association, Nexus Yearbook and Hofstra Historians, Center of Civic Engagement, and many other clubs and organizations on campus. He is also currently the Student Affairs Chair in the University Senate. After graduating in May, Kenny plans to attend law school.
Elizabeth is a second year law student at Hofstra University School of Law, serving as 2010-2011 President of Hofstra Law Women. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Moravian College in 2009, as well as a certificate in Co-Curricular Leadership. As a graduate of the National LeaderShape Institute, Elizabeth understands the importance of young adults serving as leaders in their communities and aims to help others realize their potential as leaders in schools and workplaces. Her other passions include participation in politics and women's rights issues.

My Passion: I care deeply about environmental issues and strive to make life decisions reflecting that passion. I hope to travel the world doing activist work and volunteering on organic farms; I am happiest outdoors! I believe all social issues are interrelated and will put forth my best efforts to raise awareness in the Hofstra community.

We live in a world where we can no longer afford to wait and see as someone else tries to place their impact so that we can hope for a change. Instead we are forced to act to see the change that we so believe in. My name is Agnes Gakenia Mathenge, a Mathematical Business Economics major and an intern at the Centre for Civic Engagement. I come from Africa- (Kenya to be precise), a continent known predominantly for war, poverty and disease, yet it is the boiling pot of so much potential that is so needed in the world today. As a native of the continent it then becomes my responsibility to try and change that which ails us, by learning about what the root of the problem is and acting positively towards a change. Working for CCE therefore provides this training ground of how to approach issues such as the economy, human rights and the environment and create awareness that eventually impacts people and causes them to see a need for change. This is what I would want to see in Kenya, in Africa, these acts that do lead to a positive and long-lasting change.
Year at Hofstra: Sophomore (Class of 2013)
Major/Minor: Health Science/ International Affairs
I aspire to become a physician; one of my greatest goals is to go back to help improve the health conditions in my country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the African continent before traveling worldwide to assist in medical programing. An old central African proverb says, " When you take the elevator up to reach the top, please don't forget to send the elevator down." In other words, when you reach your success in life, do not forget to help others that come after you. I want to reach back to help under-privileged populations in Africa and worldwide.I want to visit remote places to deliver treatments personally.
Other Affliations: NOAH program, Co-founder and president of Hofstra Afrikan Students Association (HASA).

Majors: Business Economics and Global Studies, minor in General Business.
The world is far from the merry go playground that we were all made to believe in as kids. As kids we are shielded from the dysfunctions around us and live in this make believe world in the early stages of our lives. As adults we are dragged and thrown into the harsh realities of life and we try to find our path out of this maze of humanity. So in that case it's left for us to try and play our role in making the world a place where reality is so good, it feels like a dream.
We do these things so that we wouldn't have to shield our children from the negative aspects of the world, but let them be free to explore and live in a world with no hate. Let them experience the life that we once thought existed -- a world that can be achieved when people will stop thinking about just themselves but everyone else.

My Passion: I enjoy working with youths and children who I know that I am able to inspire and leave a positive influence on.
I think that it is highly important that my generation understands issues affecting the developing world, particularly Latin America and the Caribbean, and provides greater support to institutions developed for addressing them, such as NGOs and the UN-bodies.
I also enjoy participating in anything that encourages multiculturalism.
Major: Global Studies and Economics
Year: Sophomore
My interests include economic development, culture, history, and human rights. As a student of the social sciences, I have observed that many dilemmas within global affairs are repercussions of economic challenges. My experience as a CCE intern has solidified my objective of pursuing a career in economic development.

My passion: My passion is to work at UN or an NGO to make a difference in people lives around the globe. I love to help people.
