Forensic scientists use cutting edge scientific techniques such as DNA and spectrophotometric analyses to help solve crimes for government and police agencies, fire companies and private firms. Those techniques involve the examination and comparison of biological evidence, trace evidence, impression evidence, drugs and firearms.

Intended for both traditional undergraduate students and law enforcement personnel, Hofstra University's four-year program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in physical and natural sciences and to acquaint them with various aspects of the legal system as they pertain to a forensic scientist. Students will participate in an internship after their junior year in science laboratories, government crime labs or police departments, providing them with real-life experiences in the field of forensic science.
