10:10 am -11:05 am: SICK AROUND THE WORLD - What realistic options do Americans have to replace our costly and collapsing health insurance system? This new documentary interviews patients, doctors, and economists about the costs, convenience, and effectiveness of the widely varying alternatives in the U.S., England, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and Taiwan. Introduced by: Professor Martin Melkonian

11:15 am -12:45 pm: OFFICE SPACE - Clever comedy about white-collar peon Peter Gibbons who decides he's had enough with his pushy boss and mindless job. When his slacker rebellion is misinterpreted by upper management, he is quickly promoted. But his seemingly fool-proof corporate robbery scheme spins out of control, with surprising consequences. Introduced by: Professor Russell Harrison

12:50 pm - 1:45 pm: SIT DOWN AND FIGHT - Today, the American automobile industry is in a near-fatal crisis, dependent for survival on union concessions and government bailouts. This film shows how the industry developed and how workers won historic advances in their pay and benefits that helped build the “middle class.” Includes vivid sections on the crucial roles of women and minority workers in the battles against often militant employer and police resistance. Introduced by: Professor Gregory DeFreitas

1:55 pm -2:50 pm: MADE IN L.A. - Moving documentary tracing the personal transformations of three Latina garment workers who, through a ground-breaking law suit and consumer boycott, fight to establish an important legal and moral precedent holding an American retailer liable for the labor conditions under which its products are manufactured. An insider's view into both the struggles of recent immigrants and into the highs and lows of the organizing process today. Introduced by: Professor Bhaswati Sengupta
