Course Description
This Elementary Russian language course continues the development of functional competence in all four language skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing, while building a solid grammatical base and expanding cultural knowledge.
Prerequisite: RUS001 or equivalent.
Course Reqirements:
Attendance is mandatory and will be recorded. Tardiness will be counted as a half absence. In extreme cases, disruptive behavior and/or talking in class will be penalized as an absence.
Homework
Due on the day after they are assigned. Homework submitted after the original due date will not be accepted. Write your homework on separate sheets of paper. When you do an exercise, copy entire sentences, not just what goes in blanks. When your homework is returned, pay special attention to whatever is circled (spelling) or underlined (grammar mistakes). Full credit homework is returned with a check mark. You will receive full credit for homework only by resubmitting it to me with corrections of the circled areas within a week of the original assignment. If you do not hand back corrected homework, you receive only half-credit for the assignment.
You are also required to listen to audio materials that accompany each chapter in the textbook. All materials are available online. It is imperative that you listen to the appropriate tape as each lesson is being covered in class and complete all oral drills.
There will be tests after each chapter in the textbook. All tests will be comprehensive, that is, each one will cover material from all previous lessons. There will be no makeup quizzes or tests. Your final exam will be based on the material you have learned during the semester.
Grade Formation:
- 25% Work in class
- 25% Homework
- 10% Lab work
- 20% Quizzes
- 20% Final exam
If you have any condition, such as a physical or mental disability, which will make it difficult for you to carry out the work as I have outlined it, or which will require extra time on examinations, please notify me in the first week of the course so that we may make appropriate arrangements.
