Master of Arts in English Literature

Admission Requirements

The following are required for admission to the Master of Arts in English Literature Program:

• Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited university
• An overall grade point average of at least 3.0
• Grade B or better in 24 credits of upper-division English courses

Applicants who do not meet these standards may still apply, but are asked to submit satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and a recent writing sample demonstrating a clear ability to analyze a literary text. All candidates for admission must submit a personal statement, of about 750 words, explaining their intention to pursue advanced literary study. While early application is appreciated, admission is on a rolling basis. Students may begin in the Fall, Spring, or Summer terms.
