Among other works, the Writing Studies and Composition component of the cluster will include Mary Shelley’s classic thriller Frankenstein, which asks the question: What responsibilities do scientists and engineers owe to their societies?

How does the American welfare state compare with how other nations assist their poor? Students also examine the history, politics and governing structures of the United States national government. Students also examine contemporary issues, policies and debates through current readings, including key works of political fiction – novels and films – which illuminate poverty and the role and responsibility of government in addressing it.
