Major in Global Studies

B.A. Specialization in Global Studies

A minimum of 33 semester hours in Global Studies, and a minor consisting of 18 credits in an academic discipline, distributed as follows:

  1. The following required courses: GS 001 (BH)(IS) (Introduction to Global Studies), GS 104A-Z (BH)(IS) (SpecialTopics in Global Studies), and GS 180 (Senior Seminar in Global Studies and Research Methodology) and Geog 001 (World Regional Geography).
  2. At least 9 s.h. but no more than 12 s.h.), in addition to the required courses, from the electives in global economics, politics and culture. Any course not currently listed under global economics, politics and culture, but approved by the director of GS, may be counted toward these 9 sh.
  3. At least 9 s.h. (but no more than 12 s.h.), from the regional area studies electives. At least 6 s.h. must come from the same regional area studies program. Any course not currently listed under the regional area studies electives, but approved by the director of GS and the applicable area studies director, may be counted toward these 9 sh.
  4. A maximum of 12 s.h. of courses taken in any one academic discipline may be used toward the 33 s.h. needed for the major. Classes that have the GS designation or are required courses are excluded from this restriction.
  5. Proficiency in a foreign language through level 4. This does not count toward the 33 credits needed for the major in GS.
  6. At least 18 of the s.h. for the major must come from 100-level courses.
  7. A final grade of C- or better is required in each course.
  8. A Minor, consisting of 18 credits, taken in an academic discipline. Courses taken in the minor may not be applied toward the major.

Any course not listed, but approved by the director of GS and the appropriate regional area studies director may be counted toward these 9 sh.
