Honors Options allow students to earn honors credits in regular Hofstra courses by completing an enriched curriculum.
Tying your honors work to your passions
Honors options allow you to tie your honors work to your personal and intellectual passions in regular Hofstra courses that fit your major, your minor or in an elective slot.
Bonding with the faculty
Honors options are opportunities to build long-lasting relationships with faculty, especially (but not exclusively) within the your major area of study. With an honors option you might be gaining a mentor who will be guiding you throughout your college career.
Almost all courses at Hofstra are eligible for enrichment: though some departments have set aside certain courses (e.g. language I-IV) as ineligible for honors credit.
With an honors option, you take the same course as everyone else, but you work directly with the professor on a set of enrichments beyond the regular syllabus (which you are also responsible for, like everyone else). These enrichments vary by course, discipline, professor and even semester, but ideally reflect your interests in the field.
Most importantly, you will meet with your instructor (and sometimes with other students who are taking an honors option in the same course at the same time) outside of class (typically every two weeks or so) to discuss the enrichments you are pursuing.
