Students must have completed either JRNL 16 or RTVF 64 to enroll. You will be doing TV sports packages and learning more about sports reporting from a Glenn Petraitis, a pro who has been working in small TV markets and NYC for several years.
Media, Urban & Suburban Communication – MASS 110

The course examines urban and suburban life and explores how media affect those environments. Emphasis is placed on the reciprocal relationship between cities and the options of mediated communication. Topics include gated communities, shopping, the branding and marketing of cities, contested spaces, journalism and community life, media images of the inner city and suburbia, public policy and media infrastructure, digital cities, virtual cities, global cities, Wi-Fi and media rich environments. Scholarships
Film students: If you are interested in being considered for the Max Benjamin Kolb Scholarship – open to film majors only – please see Prof. Katzman as soon as possible. The scholarship, to be awarded to several filmmakers in the form of a check to help cover the cost of course-related films, will be awarded late in April.
2008/09 scholarship deadline: All applications for School of Communication scholarships to be awarded in the 2008-2009 academic year are due in Assistant Dean Murphy's office by April 30th. Applications are available on the bulletin board outside the Dean's Office on the third floor of Dempster Hall. Scholarships will be awarded as tuition remission on your September bill.
Film Festivals
Mezcla Media Market, Inc. is a not-for-profit international Hispanic media organization created to be a hub of media and art professionals, showcasing and promoting Hispanic artistic and literary work. Our organization's involvement in the following mediums: advertising, broadcasting, journalism, publishing, cinema films, and Internet, enables us to disseminate information and accomplish our mission.
We wanted to send a special invitation to your department to an event that we will be hosting in conjunction with an organization on your campus (Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc) on April 8, 2008 in the Student Center.
We will be showcasing short films that were shown at our 2007 LILIFF out in the Hamptons. There will be producers, writers and directors presenting and speaking about their films, their experience writing and directing and getting into the industry.
We will be supplying information about NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) and Mezcla/LILIFF and also accepting submissions for our 2008 film festival.

Submissions needed for "I Heart Tap Water". You can get info at www.takebackthetap.org. We're asking students to create a 2-minute YouTube video about why they think tap water is great (as opposed to bottled water). There is a prize of $1500 for the winner, and the contest judges include Alec Baldwin. Deadline is soon.

An invitation for all: Tom Kolb, the father of Max Kolb, a Hofstra film student who died tragically several years ago, invites everyone to attend the screening of a film he has produced about Max. It's called the boy with the smile – a joyous celebration of the life and times of max benjamin kolb. It will be held at Anthology Film Archives on Sunday, April 13 at 4:00 pm. The venue is at 32 Second Avenue at East 2nd Street in Manhattan. If you'd like to go, an RSVP to SCOScoop is appreciated.
