Dr. Andrea Perkins recently joined the Hofstra faculty as an assistant professor. She completed her doctorate in rehabilitation counselor education from Michigan State University. She also received a Bachelor and Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from Springfield College (MA). Dr. Perkins has worked in the private non-profit and for-profit systems as a case manager, program coordinator, and vocational evaluator. She is currently pursuing licensure as a mental health counselor for the state of New York.
Dr. Perkins' teaching interests are assessment and evaluation; field work and internship; policy, legislation, and advocacy; multicultural issues in counseling; case management; and counseling techniques. Her research interests include transition services for students with disabilities, multidisciplinary services for people with disabilities, ecological assessment, multicultural counseling, and professional development. Her personal interests include running, leadership training for youth, field hockey, and the Boston Red Sox.

Dr. Jamie S. Mitus joined the rehabilitation counseling program at Hofstra University as an assistant professor in 2003. She graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a doctorate in psychology, specializing in rehabilitation education. Dr. Mitus has 7 years of experience working as a rehabilitation counselor. This experience includes assisting individuals with head injuries in returning to work. She also has experience in working with individuals injured on the job. She is licensed as a professional counselor in the state of Illinois and plans to pursue licensure in the state of New York.
Dr. Mitus teaches courses in Philosophy and Principles of Vocational Rehabilitation, Assessment of Rehabilitation Resources, Practicum, and Internship. Other teaching interests include Private Rehabilitation and Group Counseling.
Areas of research interest include organizational adjustment of rehabilitation counselors, workplace socialization of employees with disabilities, and the impact of family dynamics for individuals with head injuries on adjustment to disability.
