Internship Requirements

The internship experience (REHB 234/5) provides the students with observation and participation in one or more comprehensive vocational rehabilitation agencies, either voluntary, public, or private as a counselor. Placement will be made with an advisor's approval and according to the student's needs. The student will be under the supervision of both the agency and the University, requiring weekly meetings with agency supervisor and a University representative to discuss progress and problems during internship. A minimum of 300 clock hours is required for each semester, totaling a minimum of 600 clock hours. The internship is offered during the fall and spring semesters and is generally taken during the second year of the program. Permission of an advisor is required.

Topics that will be discussed during the internship seminar include: case histories, discussion with graduated interns, tapes of sessions, topics not covered in other courses, other difficulties that may arise and supervision sessions.

Requirements to fulfill the internship include:

  • A minimum of 300 hours of field work experience per semester in an accepted rehabilitation counseling facility under the supervision of a qualified rehabilitation counselor (CRC).
  • Weekly supervision with on-site supervisor.
  • Completion of internship log on form provided.
  • Completion of one case study (model provided) and discussion seminar.
  • Write up of supervision session(s) and discussion in verbatim form.
  • Submission of the three tapes of counseling sessions over the time of the internship.
  • Attendance and participation at bi-weekly seminar meetings or in small groups.
