Dr. Carol Alberts received her Doctorate of Education from St. John's University in Instructional Leadership with a specialization in School Law and an M.S. degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Sport Psychology. Dr. Alberts Chaired the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences from 1988 to 1995. She has most recently authored a text on sport and character development and has focused her professional energies on speaking and writing in the areas of teacher and coaching education. She is a folio reviewer for the National Council for Coaching Education. She also serves as a risk management and liability consultant for Physical Education and Athletics. Dr. Alberts has most recently been appointed a Fellow of the Mendelson Center for Sport, Character and Culture at Notre Dame.

Jay L. Cameron taught in a physical education program at Beekmantown Central School that emphasized fitness and developing lifelong physical activity. He received his BEd and MA from McGill University in Montreal where he has also worked as a special instructor in the Department of Physical Education. Jay will be teaching methods and professional preparation to students in the BSPE and MSPE programs while he pursues his doctorate specializing in standards, assessment, and accountability in New York State physical education.

Dr. Brian Clocksin received his Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Utah in Sport Pedagogy with a specialization in Youth Development. His professional experience includes the University of Utah and Millikin University prior to his arrival at Hofstra in 2005. He has published articles in refereed journals (JTPE, RQES, QUEST, TEPE) and has presented at local, state, regional and national professional conferences on topics including youth obesity and media use, adventure education and using pedometers in a K-12 setting. He was an invited presented at the 2005 AAHPERD Student Leadership Conference. Together with Dr. Quimby and Dr. Doolittle, he created the Hofstra Adventure Research Team. Dr. Clocksin is currently on the Executive Council and the publication chair for the Council for Adventure Outdoor Education/Recreation (CAOER). His research interests include using adventure education in elementary physical education settings, promoting group cohesion and youth development, reducing youth obesity, and after-school programming.
Steven Frierman, Ph.D.

Dr. Frierman received his doctorate of Philosophy from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro from the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences. He has developed and/or modified 8 different courses across five different programs in order to meet the present needs of students. He was the creator of the Sport Psychology section for American Football Quarterly which reached over 15,000 sport practitioners per quarter. Dr. Frierman wrote or edited 16 articles focusing on performance enhancement strategies and coaching effectiveness as well as having his own column, entitled "The Mind Zone." Dr. Frierman has presented at local and national conferences and organizations including NASPSPA, AAHPERD, NYSAAHPERD, NYSSHLAS and NCJW. He was the sport psychologist for one of the NY professional teams and has worked with coaches and athletes of all ages and skill levels on the development and implementation of mental training programs. He has been interviewed by several journalists and TV hosts requesting information in the areas of sport and exercise psychology and he is presently writing a book entitled "Blessing in Disguise: Inspiring others to overcome difficulties their lives." Dr. Frierman's research interests focus on group and team dynamics, psychological momentum, and motivational and adherence strategies in sport, physical activity and exercise. He has adopted a scholarly application approach in which research is simplified and presented to sport and exercise practitioners for their own professional growth and development.

Anthony Gulli

Professor Gulli received is his Professional Diploma in School Administration from Long Island University at the C.W. Post Campus. In addition, he is a Certified Athletic Administrator, as recognized by the National Association of Athletic Administrators. Professor Gulli recently completed a highly successful 35-year career as educator and administrator in Long Island. He has held numerous positions of leadership in Nassau County and at the state level. The most notable being the New York State President of the Council of Physical Education Administrators. During his career he has presented at more than 100 workshops in the areas of Physical Education, Physical Activity, Health, and topics reflecting fitness education. His membership on several state committees contributed greatly to the initial development of New York State Learning Standards for Physical Education. Professor Gulli is also an active consultant to numerous school districts nationwide on creative fitness technology and fitness education programming.
Nancy Halliday, Ph.D.

Dr. Nancy Halliday received her Ph.D. from the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance at Temple University. Dr. Halliday taught for 16 years and chaired the Physical Education Department at The King's College in Briarcliff Manor, New York prior to coming to Hofstra University. Dr. Halliday also has an extensive background in camping, with more than 20 years of experience as a resident camp director. Dr. Halliday's scholarly work includes publications and presentations related to developmentally appropriate activity for children, outdoor leisure and adventure activities, motor learning, risk management and activity safety, and leadership and administration. Dr. Halliday has served on the state and local levels as leisure/adventure section president and is a reviewer and adjudicator for NASPE/NCATE undergraduate program accreditation portfolios.
Brian Lyons, Ph.D.

Dr. Lyons received his doctorate in Exercise Science from the University of Mississippi. He hold graduate degrees in Recreation and Leisure Management and Administrative Organization and Management. Dr. Lyons has taught recreation, physical education, and exercise science courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level at the University of Mississippi, West Texas A&M University, Rockford College, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He is the recipient of several teaching awards. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Certified Personal Trainer. Dr. Lyons holds certifications in Biomechanics of Resistance Training and Nutritional Aspects of Training from the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research. He has published articles in Physical Therapy Reviews and the Journal of the Mississippi Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. He has also co-authored a chapter in a leading Exercise Science text. Dr. Lyons has been involved with the National Youth Sports Program in both Mississippi and Illinois. Dr. Lyons most enjoys teaching Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, and Strength and Conditioning courses.
Thomas Quimby, Ed.D

Dr. Tom Quimby received a BS degree in Physical Education from Charleston Southern University, a MA degree from Morehead State University and his Ed.D specializing in Adventure Education from Boston University. He is an expert in Adventure Education and has conducted workshops for diverse groups and clients for over 30 years. He is an emeritus professor at Plymouth State University in which he wore "many hats" during his 19 years of service from varsity coach of men's and women's skiing, women's swim coach, and chairperson of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Dr. Quimby was the Director of Outward Bound Professional at Thompson Island and recently attended the National Outdoor Leadership School in Baja, Mexico. His research interests include Adventure Education and Ropes Course Safety. Dr. Quimby has been surfing for over 40 years and loves the beaches of Long Island and Cape Cod. He has been married for 34 years and has a son, a daughter and two grand children.
