Requirements

Masters of Science in Education Degree in Counseling

1. Application for admission is made to the Graduate Admissions Office where directions are given for securing transcripts of previous schooling and other necessary information
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA ≥ 3.0 in relevant studies
3. 18 credits of pre-requisite course work (see below).
4. GRE (General Aptitude test): combined scores of 1000 on Verbal and Quantitative preferred, with a minimum of 450 on the Verbal section. Scores of 4.0 or better are expected on the analytical writing section. Applicants who hold a master’s degree are not required to submit GRE scores, provided their grade point average in that degree was above a B (3.2).
5. Three letters of reference from individuals who can speak to the candidate’s ability to succeed at the graduate level and his or her suitability for the field of human services.
6. Personal essay (including professional goals and objectives).
7. Writing sample to be completed at the time of personal interview.
8. Personal interview with the Program Director after all application materials are on file and general program qualifications however determined.

Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling

1. Bachelors degree from an accredited institution, preferably with a major concentration in psychology, the behavior sciences and/or human services.
2. Minimum undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0.
3. Writing sample (to be completed at time of personal interview.
4. Three (3) letters of recommendation for academic and character references.
5. Personal essay describing professional intent and pertinent background.
6. Admission interview with the program director and/or faculty representative.
7. Personal experience in counseling or growth-oriented processes are highly desirable.

Advanced Certificate: Mental Health Counseling

1. Master’s degree in counseling within the last 10 years, with relevant post-master’s experience;
2. GPA in previous master’s degree of 3.2 or better;
3. Two letters of recommendation from human service professionals; and
4. Demonstrated activity within the field of counseling
