Students do the first two semesters of internship at Hofstra’s on-campus Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, located on the South Campus in the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center. This setting provides students with the close supervision and support necessary to develop confidence at the earliest stage of their clinical career.
As students approach the end of their time at the Saltzman Center, they meet with the MFT Program Director, who provides them with contact information for at least three of the more than 20 off-campus placement sites with which the MFT Program has a relationship. Students do the final two semesters of internship at one of these sites, which are typical of the kinds of sites that employ marriage and family therapists. Currently, the sites at which our students do their off-campus internship include:
- Private practices
- Community mental health agencies
- Substance abuse clinics
- Child welfare agencies
