Note:
A Medication Request Form must be filled out by your child's physician, and must either be sent into the camp office ahead of time or accompany the medication being dropped off.

Medication must be in the original container, including the label with your campers name, dosage, and the prescriber's name.

Our Administrative and Support Staff


Terence Ryan, Director

B.S., athletic administration; M.S., elementary education, St. John’s University; P.D., supervision and administration, Dowling College. Former teacher and assistant principal in the Levittown and Valley Stream School Districts. Former middle school football, basketball, softball and baseball coach, and former high school basketball coach. Former assistant for Hofstra Men’s Basketball. Adjunct faculty, St. John’s University and Farmingdale State University. Has been a member of the Summer Camp family since 1999.

Gina Brick, Assistant Director

B.A., Psychology. MSEd, Counseling, Hofstra University. Currently working as the Elementary Youth and Family Engagement Specialst for STRONG Youth organization in Uniondale. Has been a member of the Summer Camp family since 2006.

Kerry Jansen, Camp Health Director

RN, BSN, 30 years nursing experience. She worked for Mercy Medical Center for 16 years, specializing in medical-surgical nursing, after completing her time at Mercy moved onto the Nursing Sisters in Rockville Centre. Currently she is the Head Nurse for Sewanhaka High School. She has been a member of the Summer Camp family since 2014.

Kim Balan, Director of REACH

Kim Balan is a Special Education Teacher who is currently pursuing her license as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She has 18 years of experience working with individuals with autism and other disabilities and their families to provide the support and structure they need in the home and school environment. In 2018, Kim joined Hofstra Summer Camps as the Director for the REACH for Teens program. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Psychology with an Applied Behavior Analysis specialized extension. Currently, she works as a behavior consultant for Marra and Glick Applied Behavior Analysts where she provides consultation, parent/family training and professional development training for staff. Previously, Kim served as a teaching assistant for the Levittown School District and an ABA therapist and parent trainer for multiple agencies to include KidsTherapy, LifesWorc, and Blue Sea Educational Consulting.

Jeremy Melnick, Recreation Director

B.A., child psychology, University of Rhode Island; L.M.S.W., child clinical social work, Fordham University. Certified in child and family counseling from Fordham University; Certification in school administration SBL/SDL, Stony Brook University. Certified teacher of NYS SAVE Program (Safe Schools Against Violence Education). Certified instructor of the CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program; former director of the Sid Jacobson JCC special services programs and director of Camp Kehilla (a camp for children and teens with special needs). Currently a school social worker in the Smithtown Central School District. Has been a member of the Summer Camp family since 1999.

Nicole Kaye, Recreation Director

B.A. Elementary Education and Psychology, Manhattanville College. M.A. Special Education, Hofstra University. Fourth grade teacher at Denton Avenue School in the Herricks School District. Varsity Girls Coach Basketball and Lacrosse. Has been a member of the Summer Camp family since 2009.

Danna Steppe, Swim Director

BA Elementary Education, CW Post LIU, MS Physical Education, Hofstra University. Certified Physical Education, Brooklyn Preparatory High School (NYC). Athletic Director for Harry Van Arsdale Campus, as well as coach for Co-Ed Double Dutch Team. WSI-certified, CPR/AED and First Aid Certified. Over 20 years of camp staff and has been a member of our Summer Camp family since 2011.

Patty Brick, Senior Assistant

Has been a member of the Summer Camp family since 2002.



Please note that opening of on-campus summer camp or any on-campus programs will be subject to all then-current New York State and Nassau County Department of Health requirements and guidance. Any individual visiting the Hofstra campus or attending on-campus programs or camps will be required to follow all such rules and University policies relating to health and safety. Participants will be notified of University policies prior to the start of any on-campus program.
