About the Writing Center
Location: 102 Mason Hall (weekdays during the day) and 201G Axinn Library (evenings and weekends)
The Writing Center welcomes all members of the Hofstra community--undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni--who would like assistance working on any kind of writing project.
The Writing Center's faculty tutors, graduate writing fellows, and undergraduate peer tutors are dedicated and trained specialists from a variety of academic disciplines. They work with writers in exploring any and all parts of the writing process, including discovering ideas, developing paragraphs, organizing discussions, strengthening arguments, improving grammar and usage, editing papers, and revising drafts.
The Writing Center's tutors coach writers to help them identify errors and to revise and edit their own work effectively. Our goal is to produce not only better writing, but also better writers.
We are also currently piloting a project in which reference librarians from Axinn Library take appointments on select days in the Writing Center to help writers with research projects--the librarians are happy to help writers with research for anything from a term paper to a dissertation to scholarly monograph. To make a research appointment, click on an appointment marked "For Research Help Only" after you've logged into the regular Writing Center schedule.
The Writing Center maintains both daytime hours (in 102 Mason Hall) and evening and weekend hours (in 201G Axinn Library). Appointments are made via the "schedule an appointment" link above.
