The Journey from Injured in Iraq to Hopeful and Helpful on the Home Front

Two severely injured Iraq war veterans who co-founded Purple Heart Homes, will speak at Hofstra University about service, sacrifice, family and giving back.

On Monday, March 28 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, South Campus, Dale Beatty, who is living with double amputation below the knees and John Gallina, who lives with severe head, back and neck injuries will discuss their personal experiences and how as battle buddies they Co-founded Purple Heart Homes, a non-profit organization dedicated to adapting existing homes veterans already own to make doorways wider, bathrooms more accessible and build ramps where steps have become obstacles for older veterans and their caregivers.

Their journey together is one of friendship, service, courage and leadership. Their shared experiences in the National Guard created a strong sense of community and instilled a humanitarian spirit to give back and make a difference in the lives of other Service Connected Disabled Veterans.
