At Hofstra University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (HCLAS), you can explore and discover new talents while preparing for a wide range of career options. You will learn lasting skills - among them critical thinking, communication and analysis, that are valued in every field. You will be inspired in small classes taught by an exceptional collection of faculty who are deeply committed to teaching, and to helping you find and pursue your passion. Outside the classroom, there are hundreds of special events – lectures, seminars, conferences, performances, concerts and exhibits – that provide depth, context and new perspective about what you are learning in class. Students are often actively involved in planning, managing and producing these events, providing wonderful opportunities to hone leadership skills.

Students in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics benefit from technologically advanced facilities and field study programs ranging from an archeological dig at an 18th century slave quarter to analysis of rock samples from Ground Zero. Professors are committed to finding research opportunities on which they can collaborate with students.

The Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs has put students at the center of history-making events, such as the US Presidential debates, which Hofstra had the honor of hosting in 2008 and 2012. Students have attended national political conventions and met internationally renowned journalists, political leaders and historians. They have access to the resources of the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, the Center for Civic Engagement, and the National Center for Suburban Studies®, which produce original research and scholarship in specialized areas of study.

Students in School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts may develop their oral and written communication skills in English and other languages - both classical and modern. The School also features an incredible variety of stages where they can explore and enhance their talents. Examples include the annual Shakespeare Festival; the student gallery in the Fine Arts and Art History Department; the English Department's "Great Writers, Great Readings" series and the Music Department's busy concert and recital schedule, which gives students the chance to perform with more than 20 large and small resident music ensembles.

The School of Education of HCLAS is dedicated to preparing outstanding professionals to serve in 21st century schools, community centers and universities. As the educational landscape has changed over the decades, the School of Education has not only remained current, but in many instances been the impetus for changes in curriculum, policy and applications of technology. Programs are offered at the bachelor's, master's, advanced certificate and doctoral levels. The teacher education and educational leadership programs of the School of Education are fully accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

A liberal arts education is an excellent foundation that prepares students to adapt and thrive in a changing global workplace.
