Experiential Learning and Internships
Students may advance their foreign language skills by studying abroad. Hofstra University offers study abroad programs during the Winter and Summer intercessions. There is also a semester-long program available in India. More information may be found at hofstra.edu/studyabroad. Department faculty also work with students to secure study abroad opportunities available through other institutions.
Hofstra’s proximity to New York City means students in the Department of Comparative Languages and Literature have numerous opportunities to expand upon their core undergraduate education through an internship or other professional level activities.
Students may research and find internships through the Hofstra Career Center or with the assistance of the Office of Off-Campus Education (OCE). OCE provides support and leads on how to obtain an internship that fulfills HCLAS degree requirements. Students who have secured an internship designate a faculty sponsor, who advises the student on requirements and procedures to ensure the opportunity fulfills credit requirements. For more information on the Hofstra Career Center, call (516) 464-6060 or visit hofstra.edu/careers. For more information on OCE call Rene M. Giminiani-Caputo at (516) 463-5823 or via email.
