Event: Reel Ireland Film Series: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Time/Location: 4-6:30pm, Monroe Lecture Center Theater
Description: Screen adaptation of James Joyce’s novel. Directed by Joseph Strick, starring Bosco Hogan, T.P. McKenna, and John Gielgud. The film explores the quest for authenticity in the context of personal and political turmoil. Discussion to be facilitated by Peggy Matusiak. Co-sponsored with Hofstra University Honors College.

Event: Nailer: Reading by Tom Phelan
Christopher Isherwood Fellowship Recipient

Description: The author will read from his novel Nailer—the story of the murder of two teachers at an Irish midlands industrial school whose bodies were found nailed to the floor. The search for “The Nailer” uncovers the abuse of vulnerable boys at the school. Book sales and signing to follow.

Description: Professor of History at Drew University, Dr. Kinealy will discuss Daniel O'Connell's contribution to the anti-slavery movement in the United States.

Event: Irish Family Fun Day! $10 per family
Time/Location: 12:30-5pm, Hofstra USA and Intramural fields, North Campus
Description: Irish Family Fun Day gives area students and families a chance to learn more about and celebrate Irish culture. Children will learn Irish arts and crafts, Gaelic sports, traditional music, step dancing, and the Irish language. There will also be story-telling and films. During an ice-cream and cookies social, children will share what they have learned.
