Sociology Chair Greg Maney, Students
Investigate Human Trafficking

The Sociology Department and LifeWay Network, a Queens, N.Y.-based advocacy group, teamed up to conduct a study of human trafficking in the New York metropolitan area that marked the first organized effort to try to quantify the size and scope of the problem. Hofstra graduate students were instrumental in gathering data for the study, which found that the number of victims is far greater than any other previous estimates. Representatives of LifeWay Network and Sociology Department Chairman Greg Maney unveiled the results of the study at press conference at Hofstra’s University Club in November.
