In addition to graduate course work, ASHA requires at least 3 s.h. of UG course work in each of the following areas: biological sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, and the social/behavioral sciences. Deficiencies in any of these areas must be made up prior to graduating from the Master's program.

Undergraduate transcripts are evaluated by Hofstra’s Certification Office for compliance with NYS Dept. of Education requirements for teacher certification. Students will be notified of any deficiencies, and will be required to complete any identified missing course work by the time of graduation.

Additional required courses for M.A. with teacher certification (TSSLD) and Bilingual Extension in Speech-Language Pathology

All requirements for the M.A. with teacher certification as listed above, AND

Completion of a minimum of 50 hours in a bilingual clinical placement

  • Students who have not completed an undergraduate course in Aural Rehabilitation are required to take SPCH 138.

  • Satisfactory interpersonal behavior and professional performance in all academic courses and clinical practicum experiences.
