Tell us about your background and how you knew you wanted to be a teacher.

The Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies program at Hofstra University far exceeded my expectations. The professors were amazing professionals with a strong background in higher education administration and a passion for mentoring and educating future administrators. The assignments that my classes required of me, which included research papers, group presentations, mock strategic plans, and observation hours, successfully prepared me for a full-time job at a university.

While a student, I was a co-founder of the Higher Education Graduate Student Association (HEGSA). This organization offers co-curricular opportunities such as Mock Interview Nights, various networking opportunities, and more. I highly suggest getting involved and taking advantage.

In my current position at SUNY College at Old Westbury, I focus on the involvement and satisfaction of commuter students at our campus. I program specifically for them, as well as conduct various assessments to ensure that their needs are being met. I also sit on a number of committees to represent their needs, and I oversee many leadership programs and positions. I was completely prepared to take on any task that my position has thrown at me. Choosing this program at Hofstra University was the best decision of my life.
