In Literacy Studies, our degree programs are designed to maximize opportunities for students to work closely with a faculty that is committed to excellence in teaching. The faculty has received national and international recognition for their research and scholarship. They are committed to providing students in literacy studies with opportunities to participate in the intellectual discussions that frame current understandings of school literacy practices, as well as local, global, and virtual literacy practices.

The Literacy Studies faculty share and develop expertise in the following areas:

  • Bilingual/dual language education
  • Dual literacy/special education option

  • Assessment-driven (evidence-based) literacy support
  • Understanding standardized assessment and evaluating reading programs
