Host your own Debate Watch Party!

Submit your debate watch sites to us by emailing educate08@hofstra.edu and we'll post them on our DebateWatch site and send you five (5) free official "debate '08" buttons!

DebateWatch is a voter education program of the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). DebateWatch brings citizens like you together to watch the televised debates, talk about what you learned, and, if you choose to, share your reactions with the CPD.

Hofstra University is a voter education partner of the commission on presidential debates and will be hosting its own DebateWatches which are listed below. Please note all DebateWatch events are open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Third Presidential Debate

Student Debate Watches
*Open to Hofstra University students only*
Four locations on North Campus: "Choose Your Party!"

Student Center Theater
7:30 p.m.: Faculty panel with Mary Anne Trasciatti, Moderator (Speech Communication and Rhetorical Studies), Carolyn Dudek, Panelist (Political Science) and Paul Fritz, Department of Political Science
9 p.m.: Simulcast viewing of the Final Presidential Debate
10:30 p.m.: Breakout sessions in Student Center 140 rooms; SIRIUS Satellite Radio broadcast in the Theater

Student Center Main Dining Room
7:30 p.m.:  Debate between the College Democrats and College Republicans, responding to questions from students
9 p.m.: Simulcast viewing of the Final Presidential Debate
10:30 p.m.:  "I'm Voting For" Post-Debate Discussion: Did the candidates discuss the issues that are important to Hofstra students?  Watch video clips of Hofstra students talking about the issues that are driving them to the polls, and discuss how the candidates addressed those issues during the debate.  Dessert will be served.  "I'm Voting For" is a non-partisan project sponsored by Campus Progress Action.

Netherlands Dining Room
7:30 p.m.:  Get you picture taken with (a life size cut-out of) your candidate, make political buttons, compete in a political trivia contest, and participate in other hands-on activities
9 p.m.: Simulcast viewing of the Final Presidential Debate
10:30 p.m.:  Join one of the post-debate programs in the Student Center

Hofstra USA
7:30 p.m.: Celebrate with music, dance, and spoken word performances by Hofstra students
9 p.m.: Simulcast viewing of the Final Presidential Debate
10:30 p.m.:  Music continues until midnight

Community Debate Watch
Location: John Cranford Adams Playhouse
7:30 p.m.: Faculty Panel with Dr. Robert Guttman, Department of Economics, Dr. Carolyn Eisenberg, Department of History, Dr. Jonathan Lightfoot, Department of Foundations, Leadership and Policy Studies, Dr. Mary Kahl, State University of New York, New Paltz and Dr. Susan Drucker, Department of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations
9 p.m.: Simulcast viewing of the Final Presidential Debate
10:30 p.m.: Breakout sessions


The Office of the Attorney General in Nassau County!

Tuesday October 7th at 7:00 pm at the Caroline G. Atkinson School (58 W. Seaman Ave.; Freeport, NY). This meeting will discuss issues of concern to the residents of Nassau County including environmental protection, health care, consumer protection, civil rights, workers rights, internet safety, and student loans.

Be sure to stay around to watch the presidential debate at 9:00pm which we will be shown on site.

Southern Utah University

The Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Service at Southern Utah University is have a huge debate party; 50 to 100 students will attend! The debate will be shown at 9 p.m. (EST) on a projection screen and a student forum willl be held after the debate.
