Alumni Organization
The purpose of the Hofstra University Alumni Organization ("Alumni Organization") shall be to serve and promote the mission of the University and its alumni in a manner that enriches the quality of the institution and the lives of its members.
Alumni Organization Goals
The goals of the Alumni Organization are:
a. To increase the alumni volunteer base
b. To increase alumni participation and involvement in University activities
c. To increase alumni participation in fund raising activities
d. To promote pride, tradition and loyalty among both current students and former students
Alumni Assembly
The Alumni Assembly consists of the leaders of all alumni affinity and regional groups throughout the United States. The Assembly meets at least twice each year to discuss issues that affect Hofstra alumni.

Laurie J. Bloom '95
Laurie J. Bloom serves as immediate past president of the Hofstra Alumni Organization. She previously served two terms as first vice president, chaired the Products and Services Committee, and also served on the Alumni Executive Council as an at-large member. Laurie was a member of Hofstra's CAN! Program. She is a 1995 graduate of Hofstra's School of Communication, where she earned a bachelor's degree, cum laude, in journalism, and minored in fine arts. As a Hofstra student, Laurie was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society and Alpha Sigma Lambda's Kappa Chapter. In 2005 she was honored to serve as the keynote speaker for the first Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society Induction Ceremony.
Laurie is director of marketing and communications for the nationally prominent law firm Rivkin Radler LLP, where she is responsible for all aspects of the firm's initiatives and strategies with respect to marketing, communications, public and media relations, and client development. Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Laurie was director of marketing and communications for the Long Island Board of Realtors and Multiple Listing Service of Long Island, Inc.
In addition, Laurie serves as an adjunct professor of public relations at Hofstra University's School of Communication. She has addressed numerous professional and student groups on an array of topics relating to issues and careers in public relations, communications and marketing.
Laurie is a member of the executive board of Pet Peeves, Inc., "the voice for L.I. pets;" immediate past chair of Nassau/Suffolk Law Services' Advisory Council; past president of Public Relations Professionals of Long Island; the Long Island Press Club/Society of Professional Journalists, the Legal Marketing Association, and has served on the board of the International Association of Business Communicators/LI Chapter. Laurie has been named among "Long Island's 50 Most Influential Women in Business" (2006) and "Long Island's Marketing Leaders" (2005) by Long Island Business News (2006), and ExecuLeaders honored her with the "ExecuLeadership Award" for Marketing Leadership (2006). Laurie was named "Top In-House Marketing Executive in a Large Firm" by Long Island Business News and Long Island Advertising Club (2002), and was named "Long Island's Top Woman Businessperson" by Molloy College in August 2003. Laurie was inducted into Long Island Business News' "40 Rising Stars Under 40" Class of 2002. She received the "Partner in Justice" Award from Nassau/Suffolk Law Services and has received special recognition from The Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary.
Frederick E. Davis, Jr., CPA, Esq., '85
Frederick E. Davis serves as president of the Alumni Organization. He previously served as vice president for programs. A dedicated volunteer, Fred speaks regularly to Hofstra student groups, served as president of the Black/Hispanic Alumni Association from 1996 to 2007. He has been a longtime supporter of the Black/Hispanic Alumni Association Scholarship, and, for several years, Fred has sponsored students who attend the National Black Student Leadership Development Conference in Washington, D.C. This winter, he and his wife established the Solange D. & Frederick E. Davis, Jr. Endowed Scholarship. Fred is a tax partner in the New York office of Mitchell & Titus, a member firm of Ernst & Young Global Limited. He has more than 17 years of public accounting experience, specializing in public companies and entrepreneurial businesses. He is a certified public accountant in New York and Maryland, and is admitted to the bar in New York and New Jersey.
Prior to joining Mitchell & Titus, Fred served as a tax partner at former "Big Five" firm Arthur Andersen. He holds a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law, a Master of Science in taxation from Long Island University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Hofstra University. As an expert in his field, Fred has co-authored several articles on various tax topics for trade publications. His articles have been featured in The Journal of Bank Taxation, among others.
Fred is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), and New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), and he serves on the NYSSCPA's Financial Instruments and Financial Transactions Committee. His external activities also include serving on the board of trustees for Vision of Hope Development Corporation, a New Jersey community-based not-for-profit organization, and on the board of trustees for Mountaintop League, a New Jersey community sports not-for-profit. Fred serves on the deacon board of the New Hope Baptist Church of Newark New Jersey.
Tanya Levy-Odom '90
Tanya Levy-Odom serves as vice president for services of the Alumni Organization. She previously served as parliamentarian/historian. She is a Vice President and Domestic Equity Analyst for Alliance Growth Equities, a subsidiary of Alliance Bernstein. She is currently responsible for equity forecasting and stock selection in the Consumer sector.
She graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Banking and Finance in 1990 and joined Smith Barney Harris Upham's Capital Management division. In 1991, she was promoted to the position of Marketing Coordinator. In 1993, she resigned her position at Shearson Smith Barney to join Alliance Capital Management's Disciplined Growth team.
Mrs. Levy-Odom earned her MBA in 1999 at Fordham University while working full time at Alliance. After a brief stint as a Relationship Manager for the Alliance Institutional Website Project, Mrs. Levy-Odom was promoted to the position of Analyst in the Domestic Equity Research department in 2001 covering consumer staples companies. In 2004, Mrs. Levy-Odom was promoted to Vice President. Mrs. Levy-Odom continues in the capacity of Vice President and Domestic Equity Analyst for Alliance Growth Equities and since then her coverage has expanded to include agribusiness, food/drug retail and consumer discretionary companies.
Alliance Bernstein Holding LP is an investment management firm that provides services to public and private employee benefit plans, foundations, public employee retirement funds, pension funds, endowments, banks, insurance companies and high net worth individuals. Assets under management as of March 31, 2010 were $501 billion.
Mrs. Levy-Odom also serves as the President of the Hofstra University Black/Hispanic Alumni Association, Treasurer of the East Kings County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a board member of the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America. She has been married to Edward Odom for nearly 16 years; they have two children.
Vincent Lopes '01
Vincent Lopes is chair of the Finance and Development Committee of the Hofstra University Alumni Organization. He previously served as chair of Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD).
Vincent earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Hofstra University. He is a Certified Financial Planner™. Prior to joining New York Wealth Management and Raymond James Financial Services, Vincent spent nine years at Smith Barney’s Garden City office. Since 2000, he has focused on providing clients with personalized financial planning and portfolio management, as well as tax-efficient investing and legacy planning.
A Brooklyn native, Vincent currently resides in North Bellmore. He enjoys playing sports in his spare time and is a former softball and tee ball coach. In addition, Vincent dedicates time to his church and is active with the Make-A-Wish® Foundation of New York.
Michelle Robey, M.B.A., CIR, '93, '99
Michelle Robey serves as secretary of the Alumni Organization. She was chair of the Hofstra Suffolk County Club from 2005 through 2010. Club. Michelle holds a bachelor's degree in accounting ('93) and an M.B.A. in finance ('99), both from Hofstra University. While an undergraduate student, she was very active in campus life, including serving as a resident assistant in the Netherlands. Additionally, Michelle was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi business fraternity and member/treasurer of Alpha Theta Beta sorority. Upon graduation, she began her professional career with KPMG and then returned to Hofstra to complete an M.B.A.
Michelle has spent the past 14 years as an executive recruiter specializing in the placement of accounting and finance professionals in the New York metropolitan area. She currently heads up the Long Island Division of the Solomon Page Group as senior vice president for accounting and finance. Prior to that, Michelle spent 12 years with a global search firm where, in addition to being an executive recruiter, she worked in the capacity of national corporate trainer and earned President's Club awards for outstanding performance. She has successfully passed the CPA exam and is a Certified Internet Recruiter.
Robert Salvatico '95
Robert Salvatico serves as vice president for programs for the Alumni Organization. He previously served as vice president for services. He is senior vice president for operations for Jaral Properties/Jaral Management Corporation, two Garden City, New York-based companies formed to own and operate family-owned hotel properties and investments. His professional responsibilities include oversight of the family-owned, 89-unit Holiday Inn Express East End and the 100-unit Hotel Indigo (currently under construction and expected to open in summer 2010) in Riverhead, New York, He formerly managed the Wingate Inn in Garden City, New York, from its opening through September 2007, when it was sold.
Robert serves on the Board of Directors of the Cradle of Aviation Museum and on the President's Advisory Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, and is president of the Chaminade High School Long Island Businessman's Association, a founding and active member of Network Long Island (NLI), and a member of the Ed Smith Mineola Lions Club. His past activities include service as director of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, and committee member of the Winthrop-University Hospital Golf Outing and Chaminade High School Golf and Tennis Open.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University, and a Master of Business Administration in marketing and information systems from Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration. In 2005 he was the recipient of the Hofstra University Young Alumnus Award. He established an annual scholarship at Hofstra in his family's name and continues to be an active volunteer.
Robert resides in Garden City, New York, with his wife, Cynthia; their daughter, Analee; and French bulldog, Lila.
Kathleen Stanley '91
Kathleen Stanley serves as parliamentarian/historian for the Alumni Organization. She previously served as co-chair of the communications and marketing committee. She is a vice president for Capital One Bank, where she directs the sales and implementation of cash management products to assigned business banking and retail customer segments. Kathleen has spent more than 15 years in the financial services industry – as a customer service representative, assistant branch manager, branch manager and vice president in charge of branch administration. Kathleen spent the last nine years of her career in cash management as a salesperson and department manager. In March 2007 Kathleen wrote and published an article titled "Using Cash Management Services to Prevent Fraud and Other Losses" for the CPA community. She was instrumental in developing a work-study program with Adelphi University, which enabled undergraduate students to work on strategic initiatives with employees and senior managers of a Long Island commercial bank.
Kathleen is a board member of the National Association of Mothers' Centers, and a member of the Commerce and Industry Council for the Katz Women's Hospital, the President's Council for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, the Treasury Management Association of New York, and the Association of Financial Professionals. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Hofstra University and is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) and an Accredited ACH Professional (AAP). Most recently, Kathleen was recognized by Long Island Business News as a recipient of its 2009 "40 Under 40" award. In August 2007 she was selected as a "Woman of Distinction" by the 15th Assembly District of the State of New York for her commitment to her profession, her family and her community and, in May 2007, as a "Women of Achievement in Banking and Finance" by the Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women.
Kathleen is married to her husband, Bill, for 15 years, and they have three children – a 10-year-old daughter and 7-year-old twins.
