The Alumni Organization is an association of volunteers working to find ways for Hofstra graduates to stay involved and contribute to the growth of the University. Each one of us is a stakeholder in the future of Hofstra University, and as the quality and prestige of the University increases, so does the value of our degrees.
I am very excited about the surge in volunteer opportunities during recent months. Whether you live in New York, out of state or in another country, there are many ways to become active in Hofstra's Alumni Organization.
Soon you will hear and read about the new Career Alumni Advisor Network (CAAN) to assist current students and alumni in their professional pursuits. Also, we will launch an Alumni Ambassador Program later this year to involve more alumni in the student recruitment and admission process.
Since many alumni have expressed their desire to stay in touch with the University through the academic programs and professors with whom they were associated, we are reaching out to Hofstra's schools and departments. We are looking for volunteers and ideas that will accomplish this goal professionally, intellectually and philanthropically.
There has been a recent increase in activity among our regional chapters from coast to coast. This is happening not only in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, but also in South Florida and California. Across the country, volunteers are getting involved to create programs to attract Hofstra alumni of all ages.
Alumni financial support continues to grow. The "Fund for Hofstra University" campaign that ended August 31 generated an increase in the number of alumni donors. Thank you for making a difference!
Please note that all alumni with class years ending in "8" or "3" will celebrate reunions next year. Mark your calendars for Reunion Weekend, June 6 to 8, 2008. The reunion for the Class of 1958 will be held May 18. For more information on volunteering, reunions and Homecoming 2007 (October 4 to 6), e-mail alumni@hofstra.edu. Let this be the year that you participate at Hofstra University.
Best wishes,
Joseph Sparacio ’89
President, Hofstra University Alumni Organization
