Alumni Recognition and Awards

Nominations may be submitted by current and former students, faculty, staff and friends of Hofstra University. The completed form must include the category of nomination and establish the candidate’s qualifications with clear and concise detail. Please submit the nominee’s resume or biographical information, including current address, to substantiate the nomination.

Awards for Achievement

Alumnus/Alumna of the Year is given by Hofstra University and the Alumni Organization in recognition of exemplary career achievement and/or outstanding service to Hofstra University or the Alumni Organization. Since 1960, only 58 alumni have received this prestigious award.

Award for Alumni Achievement is given to those Hofstra alumni who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields of endeavor and/or rendered exemplary service to Hofstra University. Of the more than 130,000 alumni, only 314 alumni have received this prestigious award to date.

Honorary Alumnus/Alumna is given by Hofstra University and the Alumni Organization to friends of Hofstra in recognition of outstanding service to the University or the Alumni Organization. First awarded in 1977, only 62 individuals have been so honored.

Young Alumni Award was first presented in 1996 by the Hofstra Alumni Organization. It is awarded to undergraduate alumni who, within 10 years of graduation from the University, have achieved significant accomplishments in professional life or for outstanding service to Hofstra University or the Alumni Organization.  Since its establishment, 26 alumni have been honored.

Awards for Volunteerism and Service

Alan Plotz ’58 Lifetime Service Recognition Award honors an alumna/us whose ongoing involvement in University activities spans 25 years or more, who has devoted his/her time and used his/her skills for the benefit of Hofstra, and who has held leadership roles, organizing and coordinating efforts on behalf of the University

Marjorie and James M. Shuart Alumni Family Award  honors a family of two or more alumni who have shown outstanding dedication and service to Hofstra including, but not limited to, alumni activity, donor activity and Hofstra volunteerism. This award is given in honor of President Emeritus James M. Shuart '53 and his wife, Marjorie Shuart '60.
