Welcome to the web site for the Institute of Real Estate (IRE) at Hofstra University. We are glad you have taken the time to visit our site.

IRE was created to promote professionalism in the real estate industry, to serve the real estate industry and to enhance the quality of real estate practice on Long Island.

The current Board of Directors of IRE includes the following: Laureen Harris, President, Herbert Agin, Edward A. Ambrosino, Edward Blumenfeld, Albert Centrella, Mark Cuthbertson, Alan Eidler, David Einbinder, Mark Hamer, Elizabeth Joyce, Gary Lewi, Robert Marks, Marc Newman, Vincent Polimeni, Howard Stein, Philip Wachtler, and Benjamin Weinstock. These individuals are among the finest and most professional representatives of the Long Island real estate industry and IRE is fortunate to have them as board members. Real estate planning and development will play a critical role in the future of Long Island and the metropolitan area. IRE will provide an opportunity for real estate professionals to share experiences, lessons and articulate a regional agenda for redevelopment and investment.

Before coming to Hofstra, I served as the Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead on Long Island, N.Y. for five years. The Town of Hempstead is the largest town in the United States with a population larger than six states. Prior to that, I was a partner in the firm of Banno and Guardino, Esqs. where I specialized both in real estate and commercial transactions. Currently, I run the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center at Hofstra where we offer the university’s resources for business support and education as well as community service.
