BDC Programs

Entrepreneurship Assistance Center

PARTIALLY FUNDED BY EMPIRE STATE DEVELOPMENT
The EAC is a 10-week program offered in the fall and spring for entrepreneurs looking to start or expand a business. More than 1,400 participants have enrolled in the program, 432 businesses have been started, 1,097 jobs have been created, and $39.45 million in revenue and $19.63 million in financing has been secured.

MWBE Certification

Hofstra's EAC provides hands-on technical assistance with the New York State Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprise Certification application process and priority processing. MWBE Certification can assist business owners in finding new business and procurement opportunities through contracts with New York state agencies.

New York Forward Loan Fund (NYFLF) Program

The NYFLF is aimed at supporting New York state small businesses with a focus on minority and women owned small businesses, nonprofits, and small residential landlords as they reopen after the pandemic. Please join us for an informative webinar.

Digital Marketing Webinar

This program is designed to assist small business owners with skills related to marketing strategies, increasing revenue, and expanding the customer base. Join marketing expert Mitch Tobol for Building a Brand for Small Businesses in 2022. Participants will learn how to approach potential clients, as well as current marketing tools and time management tips for marketing.

Digital Marketing Bootcamps

The Digital Marketing Bootcamps provide training on the latest social media topics, including Facebook, Twitter, email marketing, and more. Register for the next Digital Marketing Bootcamp.

QuickBooks Program

The QuickBooks workshop program provides skills for using an accounting software program to create and customize a complete recordkeeping system. Topics include tracking credit card transactions, invoicing customers, setting up inventory, tracking and paying sales tax and more. The Advanced QuickBooks program will take place over four sessions, April 11, 13, 18, 20, 2023.

About the Center

The Scott Skodnek Business Development Center (BDC) assists small business entrepreneurs on Long Island and in the metropolitan area to succeed in starting or expanding a business. The BDC, a designated New York State Entrepreneurial Assistance Center, offers support to these entrepreneurs through EAC, digital marketing workshops, financial management using QuickBooks, and providing assistance with the Minority/Women Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Certification application process. The BDC has supported more than 1,400 entrepreneurs since 1991 and received the Outstanding Performance Award from Empire State Development Corp. in 2009, 2013, and 2019.
