Access to Campus and Security on Campus
Debate Week

On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, drivers should expect disruptions to traffic patterns, including periodic road closures, on Hempstead Turnpike and Earle Ovington Boulevard.  Hofstra facility and road closings primarily affect the north and northeast portion of campus and athletic facilities.

Guests in the Residence Halls:

Beginning Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m. up to and through October 16, 2012, no guests other than other currently registered Hofstra students are permitted to visit or stay in the residence halls.

Vehicle Access to Campus (Gates):

Beginning Thursday, October 11 at 10:00 p.m., the East gate entrance at Earle Ovington Boulevard will be closed.

Beginning Monday, October 15 at 9:00 p.m., the North gate on Oak Street will be closed.

Thereafter, the main gate on Hempstead Turnpike and the South gate on Oak Street will remain open, and access will be permitted with a valid Hofstra identification card up to Tuesday, October 16 at 12:00 p.m. noon.  Thereafter, no access will be permitted except for service or emergency vehicles .

Parking Restrictions:

Beginning Saturday, October 13 access to certain parking lots on the north campus will be restricted.  Students are encouraged to park near the residence halls.  Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Beginning Tuesday, October 16 at 12:00 p.m. noon, no cars will be permitted to enter north campus except for service or emergency vehicles.  Employees will be able to come to work and park on the north campus before 12:00 p.m. noon; and students will be able to enter and leave the north campus up to 12:00 p.m. noon, but any car that leaves north campus will not be permitted to reenter after 12:00 p.m. noon, and parking will be available on South campus only.

However, we recommend that for ease of access, employees park on South campus for the entire day.

Please note that due to the number of Debate programs offered on October 16, certain parking lots on South campus may be restricted and parking regulations will be enforced.

Pedestrian Access:

On Tuesday October 16, 2012 pedestrian access to the north campus will be limited to Hofstra faculty, currently registered students, administration and Debate-credentialed personnel only.  A valid Hofstra ID or Debate credential will be required.  The library will remain open and access will be restricted to north campus via the unispan at the entrance north of the library.

Hofstra Transportation:

Those who will be using the Hofstra shuttle will be required to show their Hofstra identification when boarding.  Please have it available.  Local law enforcement has advised that there may be intermittent road closures affecting the shuttle route.  Please check the Parking and Traffic Advisories website for periodic updates.
