11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Axinn Library -10th Floor
Dr. Cohen, Dr. Koch, and Dr. Libresco were recipients of Special Teaching Leaves during the 2007 2008 academic year. In this program they will present the research they did during their leaves. They will also answer questions about the application process for receiving a Special Teaching Leave.
Dr. Cohen will discuss her investigation of teaching with digital technology. She studied how on-line courses work; developed videos and Power Point presentations; and learned how to use Blackboard. She will explain the challenges she faced and the benefits, insights, and understandings she acquired for herself and her students.
Dr. Koch will describe how she taught teachers through a museum collaboration.
Dr. Libresco's project involved observing effective elementary education teachers in diverse classrooms, discussing their teaching with them, and posting "dispatches from the field" on a listserve so that new teachers could read about, and be inspired by, models of wise practice from teachers who graduated from Hofstra's program.
Lunch will be served.
