Associate Professor Emeritus of English

Degrees

BA, 1974, University of Minnesota

Bio

Erik Brogger is an Associate Professor in the Creative Writing concentration of the Department of English, where he is also the Graduate Director of the MFA program in English and Creative Writing. He is a founding member of The Playwrights' Center, a national organization devoted to developing new dramatic work. His plays, which have been produced off-Broadway and in major regional theaters throughout the country, as well as in the U.K. include Copperhead, A Normal Life, Strangers' Ground, and The Paranormal Review, which was published by Samuel French and then adapted into the musical They Came From Way Out There. He has recently completed a full-length play, Dreaming in the Crescent City; this play was offered as staged readings, initially at the Playwrights' Center and, more recently, at The Ensemble Studio Theater in New York. He teaches courses in creative writing and playwriting, the latter at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His interests as a teacher include the application of Aristotle's Poetics to contemporary issues of craft in playwriting, and his coursework has incorporated such topics as working with a dramatic image and character discovery. As a writer he is interested in working in both full-length and one-act forms.
